Safety first and always

Always practice safety, when ever you attempt to construct anything, including a JDP Shack, be careful. Read and follow all safety precautions as provided and located on any tool or material that you purchase and/or use.

ALWAYS WEAR SAFETY GLASSES, EAR PROTECTION, WORK GLOVES WHEN HANDLING METEL AND A DUST MASK WHEN DIGGING HOLES, MIXING CEMENT OR CUTTING MATERIAL.

Snow Load

JDPShack is not designed to handle a snow load at all. If you live where it snows a little, see the Options section, Snow Load Re-enforcement. for more information on how to add structural re-enforcement, for up to about 6 in. of snow load, however, no guaranties, and I would suggest never let snow pile up on your JDPShack.

If you live where it snows a lot you will need to remove the roof covering in the fall and reinstall it in the spring.

Building codes

This tutorial is designed to teach people how to build a small shed or greenhouse type of agricultural structure, not for human occupancy.  Check your local building and/or planning departments to make sure you are staying in compliance with local laws regarding any and all of your construction projects.

If the overall dimensions of JDPShack do not comply with your local building codes. You can shorten the height, length and width as needed. Read more in the “options” section.
